Struggles of our Homeless

2/19/2021 KMHQ

......When You Spill Your Food.....

I went to the breakfast line today and about 15 people ahead of me was an elderly woman getting breakfast. It is oatmeal, an orange and a cup of coffee.. When she grabbed her meal she turned to walk away and bumped into someone and spilled her whole breakfast on herself and her clothes...

Now you all may think it is no big deal. She can just get back in line and get a new breakfast.. Well it isn't quite that easy.. Maybe she gets in line and when she gets back to the front there is nothing left.. Or maybe they don't give her a second meal because they may only hand out so many a day and by giving her two someone else may not get to eat.. But the thing nobody probably realizes is she just spilled coffee and oatmeal all over herself and she is wet and dirty.. Most people would just go in the bathroom and wash up and change clothes. She can't do that..

Unfortunately for her there are no showers anywhere on Tuesdays so she has to hope she can find a bathroom she can clean up in. And most likely if she is homeless she probably doesn't have clean clothes or a clean jacket to change into.. Plus what will she do with the dirty clothes? She probably doesn't have extra money on her to go to a laundromat to wash them.. So most likely she will be wearing dirty wet clothes for the rest of the day..

This is a reality for homeless people everyday. Something that most people would never think about.. Can you imagine if you had to wear clothes all day that was covered in oatmeal and coffee? It is horrible..

( p.s. she wound up getting a new breakfast and she sat down by her cart and ate.. So at least she did get to eat this morning)

(Not the woman referenced to in the story, but one of many who hare the story as life)
