ONAC KM sachem Graves to meet with Oregon Government regarding church and cannabis TODAY at the stat
Today beginning at 12:30 PM, Sachem Joy Graves of Oklevueha Native American Church of Kautantowit's Mecautea of Oregon (ONAC KM) is set to meet with state Representative Cliff Bentz in his office at the state capitol building today. Graves says they will talk about Oklevueha being recognized within the state of Oregon as well as the fact that ONAC KM primarily uses cannabis for both spiritual as well as medicinal healing practices in the church, as well as all other earth-based Healing sacred substances.
Graves is hoping to gain some respect for ONAC by state government officials and too, hopes to see law enforcers told to stand down when it comes to ONAC members and church practices as guarenteed them under the state and federal constitutions as well as additional federal laws designed to protect churches from state interfearane and illegal repercussions.
Representative Bentz governs the central eastern Oregon district in which one of the ONAC KM sanctuaries is located out in Grant County. In 2014 ONAC KM's sanctuary was illegally raided by police and their sacrmanet garden destroyed by sheriff's officials. The case moved forward with Graves standing on religious defense and ultimately the case was dismissed due to lack of law enforcements authority to interfear with the church. "If there's one thing that we learned from court Joy, is that your church is like indian reservation land, and we have no authority or jurisdiction on it" Sheriff Glenn Palmer stated to Graves after the raid case was dismissed. "Now our goal is to have state officials honor the same factual position once and for all within the boundaries of Oregon.
Please stay tuned for updates as they are provided.
