Prop 215 Father Dennis Peron Passes Over

It is with great sadness that we come to report that legendary cannabis activist and father of the countries first passed medical cannabis law Proposition 215 in the golden state of California has lost his battle with cancer at the age of 71 just a few hours ago.

Dennis Peron was surrounded by family and friends this afternoon when he passed away in the San Francisco VA hospital at approximately 2:30 PM. Dennis was suffering from COPD and agent orange in addition to Lung Cancer, which is said to have spread to his brain.

Dennis Peron was born in The Bronx, New York City April 8th, 1946. He grew up on Long Island. He was the second youngest of the four brothers. Dennis is the one closest to the text here wearing the vest looking shirt. -->

Dennis was drafted in 1966 and served in the United States Air Force in the Vietnam War during the Tet Offensive. Immediately below in the middle, is Dennis the day before he was deployed into the Viet Nam Conflict in 1967.

'I came home from Vietnam with two pounds of cannabis, and started a career that lasted 40 years.'

~ Dennis Peron

During a police raid on Peron's home and cannabis-selling Castro restaurant, the Big Top, in the 1970s, Dennis was shot in the leg by one of the police officers, but it wouldn't keep a good man down by a long shot, fortunately for all medicinal cannabis consumers.

He also suffered symptoms from a stroke as well, but Dennis was a defender of cannabis and nothing ever slowed him down, especially when it came to helping and advocating for his people and his plant! Dennis is a warrior who held his ground until the end caring

Many also don't know that Dennis also helped to raised enough signatures to put Proposition P, which legalized the medical use of cannabis within San Francisco’s city limits, on the citywide ballot, which voters overwhelmingly passed the measure with an 80% vote in November of 1991.

In 1993, he and Brownie Mary jointly released a cookbook with recipes for cannabis edibles but Dennis would become most known and loved for having coauthored California Proposition 215 because it was the first medical cannabis law passed in the United States.

Many wouldn't know that also in 1996, the Grassroots Party of Minnesota fielded Dennis Peron, as their first Presidential nominee, in the U.S. presidential election. Peron received 5,400 votes. In 1998, Peron ran in the Republican primary for California governor against Lungren, who won the primary and lost the election to Gray Davis.

Dennis was among the VIP activists including Jack Herer, Tommy Chong and many others who stood against California Prop 19 in 2010 which fortunately for the state didn't pass as it would have thrown too many under the prosecution bus. Dennis was also a treasured member of the United Cannabis Ministry who is going to be greatly missed for generations to come. Dennis is a very loving, given and compassionate individual who stood up for the rights liberties and freedoms of all.

Dennis lived out the remainder of his years operated a 20-acre medical cannabis farm near Clear Lake, California. The San Francisco's Board of Supervisors recognized Peron, suffering with late-stage lung cancer, with a certificate of honor in 2017. He was praised for giving away the needed medicine FREE of Charge!

Dennis will be greatly missed by many and will remain a highly respected part of cannabis history including by all who hadn't gotten the privilege to know him personally. He loved life and always kept a positive outlook and built morale in all who were around him, especially for the cause. Condolences for all his family, friends and all he has and continues ho help thanks to his efforts as a frontline cannabis liberator, may he finally be at peace and pain free.

Thank you all for taking the time to memorialize Dennis... Blessings.
