Entertainment Options

When people think of entertainment for a special event, they often think of music and dancing. Another common option that pops to mind is performers such as clowns, jugglers, and magicians are NOT just for kids' parties anymore!

Party entertainment spans many types of entertainers which are appropriate for a variety of event kinds. Once you've opened your mind up to the possibilities, you'll see that entertainment for a wedding, anniversary, corporate event, birthday party, or other special events can range from a DJ or a band, to a comedian, a fortuneteller or expand into professional dancers.

Magicians and hypnotists are also extremely popular because of their frequent use of audience participation., as are animals and other "theme based" focals such as a martial artist for a little boys party or a princess for a little girl party... or strippers for adult parties!

Skilled entertainers can make a stale event exciting by giving guests something to do, watch, or laugh at. If your event is outdoors, consider a festive fireworks display. Check with your venue or your town to make sure fireworks are permitted.

Some professional entertainers specialize in certain types of events. Once you've found some potential ideas, find out what types of events they are typically hired for. Definitely try to catch their act, either via videos on their website or by going to events at which they are performing.

DJs

DJ services are ideal for larger events such as weddings, bar mitzvahs, and other special events because they help keep the party moving. Not only do DJs spin your favorite tunes but a great disc jockey will also emcee the event, making key announcements and introductions.

Wedding DJs are experienced in the types of music that couples want played at their reception as well as for key moments like the first dances and the cake cutting. Most disc jockeys are also receptive to your feedback about certain songs you would and would not like played on your big day.

For kids parties, like Bar and Bat Mitzvahs or a Sweet 16, party DJs keep the kids entertained by playing games and popular dances that kids will enjoy like the limbo and the Macarena.

Once you've found some DJ companies in our vendor database, narrow it down by seeing them in action. Then work with the disc jockey to specify which type of music you prefer. DJs have it all at their disposal"”from pop to rock to easy listening"”so they should be able to meet your needs. During your initial consultation, share your event date and location. If the DJ has not worked at your venue previously, it is a good idea to find out how much space the DJ will need then make sure your venue can accommodate those needs.

Bands

Music often makes all the difference when it comes to elevating a good party to a great party. Whether you want traditional wedding music or upbeat tunes, live bands can have a huge impact on the overall tone of your event. In fact, many wedding bands gain popularity by putting on a good show from one wedding to the next.

It doesn't matter if you're looking for music bands to play an anniversary or birthday party or bands for wedding. Live music will leave a lasting impression on your guests. Did they dance the night away or sit in their chairs for the entire party? Spend the time and effort to find a band that will bring energy to your party and to your guests.

First, decide what type of live music you'd like. Do you want a live band or perhaps a string quartet? Choose from rock bands, jazz bands, swing bands, cover bands, tribute bands, blues bands, steel band, or big band music.

Then find a few and go hear them play. Bands will often invite you to hear them perform either at other functions or at local concerts. Do they take song requests? Do they play a variety of music genres? How is the audience responding? These are all things to consider when choosing a live band or wedding entertainment.

Artists

Artists can do amazing things with materials such as paint, candy, ice, henna, sand, and wax that will provide both entertainment and decoration for your special event. A well placed ice sculpture at a wedding or a colorful candy sculpture at a birthday party will make a statement that is sure to impress your guests.

A caricaturist, for example, will draw a caricature of your guests that they can each take home as a favor to remember your special day. Henna and bindi can be applied to guests as body art at cultural celebrations. This rich tradition is not only fun to have done, but also fun to watch the artist at work.

Kids face painting is a big hit at kid's parties. Depending on the theme of your party, consider the designs you want the artist to do for face painting. For example if the theme is animals, ask the face painter to have several types of animal designs to paint on the kids' faces.

Work with your party venue to determine what types of art and entertainment is allowed in your event space. Sand and wax art might not make sense in a banquet hall, but could work really well at an outdoor venue. Likewise, speak to the ice sculpture artist to find out the temperature restrictions for your sculpture.

No matter what type of event you're hosting, art is a terrific solution for entertainment, decoration, and even favors.
